HealthStar Physicians, P.C. achieves MGMA ‘better perfomer’ status

Morristown, TN, February 20, 2008 – The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Performance and Practices of Successful Medical Groups: 2007 Report Based on 2006 Data identified HealthStar Physicians, P.C. as a “better performer” because of superior operational performance compared with similar medical group practices nationwide.

MGMA recognized HealthStar Physicians for being a “better performer” in two areas; patient satisfaction and cost management. Don Lee, CEO, believes that the keys to patient satisfaction include patient convenience, being sensitive to patient needs and community involvement. Lee stated, “We offer comprehensive ancillary testing at a central location with convenient parking and extended hours of operation. We also serve our community with an Urgent Care Center that is open seven days a week”.

HealthStar Physicians was started in 1995 when 10 physicians brought their practices together into one group to serve the Morristown area. The practice has grown to 33 physicians and 14 mid-level providers with 275 support staff at ten locations. HealthStar’s strong belief in giving back to the community is evidenced by the creation of the HealthStar Foundation in 2001.

Lee stated, “We are pleased to have HealthStar favorably compared to some of the most successful and well known physicians groups across the nation. We accept this honor and the associated responsibility that goes with such a designation. The MGMA report, a benchmarking standard among medical groups for nearly a decade, was produced using data from respondents to the MGMA Cost Survey: 2007 Reports Based on 2006 Data as well as data from a questionnaire that assessed management behaviors, practices and procedures of better performers. The report profiles medical practices that have demonstrated success in one or more areas: profitability and cost management; productivity, capacity and staffing; accounts receivable and collections; patient satisfaction; and managed care operations.
